I’m Kate Howell, founder of Talk Skin Academy. With over 20 years in the industry, including luxury spa environments, consultancy and education. Why Talk Skin Academy
Talk Skin Academy was created to bridge the gap between education and real-world experience. After 20 years working across luxury spas, consultancy, spa development and education, one pattern appeared repeatedly: people were qualifying without knowing how to actually work confidently on their own. They understood theory but hadn’t been shown how to: Work their hands with intention Set up a professional treatment space Deliver facials repeatedly and consistently Create an experience clients return for This Academy exists to change that, by teaching the fundamentals as they need to exist in real, independent businesses.
What you’ll learn. The qualification is delivered through two core areas.
Follow Health & Safety in a Salon (clarity • flow • longevity) Health and safety is taught as a practical decision-making framework. You’ll learn how to create treatment environments that are: safe calm functional visually considered From layout and flow, to risk, wiring and equipment placement — this unit supports: clearer thinking reduced mental fatigue confidence in your set-up Health and safety becomes something that supports your work - not something that sits in the background. + Provide Facial Skin Care (consultation • confidence • capability) Facials are taught as a people-first skill, not a surface-level treatment. This unit focuses on: consultation as an expert skill understanding the person behind the skin confident decision-making from the outset You’ll develop: a one-hour facial you can confidently call your own hands-on treatment delivery, refined through repetition sustainable body mechanics to support long-term work This is where technique, understanding and confidence come together.
How the course works (13 weeks)
Week 1 Access to the learning platform + live introduction call Weeks 2–5 Online learning with guided progression + private community Week 6 Five-day in-person training block (hands-on learning, standards, assessments) Weeks 7–12 Guided development, assessment prep + live check-ins Week 13 Examination period
In-person training: five days of hands-on learning
The five in-person days at the Academy are predominantly practical. This is where skill is built. During these five days, you will: Perform facials repeatedly throughout each day Work hands-on with models under guidance Receive real-time feedback and correction Refine technique through repetition Experience the treatment yourself This is not demonstration-led training. It is experience-led learning. Skill comes from repetition, feedback and embodiment and that is exactly how these days are structured.
Ongoing support throughout the programme
Support does not stop once content is released. Throughout the 13 weeks, you will have: Access to a private student community from the outset Bi-weekly live group calls for guidance, questions and support Recorded calls if you’re unable to attend live These sessions exist to: Keep you on track Support your development as skills build Address questions as they arise, not at the end This qualification is designed to be completed with confidence, not simply passed.

Future pathways
Level 2 is where confidence is built. It’s where you learn to work with intention, trust your hands, and position yourself as the value within your business. For many, this foundation is enough to build a successful, sustainable independent practice. For those who wish to deepen their expertise further, the next stage is CIBTAC Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Cosmetic Practice (currently in development). Level 3 is designed to strengthen your professional authority, deepening understanding of skin, health and the human body, and supporting progression into additional tools such as: Microneedling Chemical peels Advanced skin treatments Electrical and technology-led modalities Level 2 builds the business. Level 3 expands what you can offer within it. Each stage stands on its own, but together, they create a clear, considered pathway into the wider world of skin and wellness. Progression... Level 3 is not offered as a standalone course. All students complete Level 2 first, or the TalkSkin Method if already qualified. This is how we protect standards.
